First week in Cape Town, South Africa

Yup, I’m already addicted to traveling… And it’s only been a week. I have safely arrived in Cape Town last Saturday. I immediately fell in love with South Africa as we were flying over and all I could do was smile. We got time to settle in the first day and all I wanted to do was take a shower then go on an adventure but I just chilled instead. On Sunday, we got to do a quick tour with the other volunteers that had just arrived. We went to the beautiful colorful houses called Bo-Kaap and visited more of the city.

This is the Bo-Kaap brightly colored houses.
This is the Green Market Square where you can bargain to buy local and handmade goods.

Monday, we had an information meeting about going on site for the Educare projects. I am being placed in a small school called Nyakallo. On Tuesday was the first day on projects. I mainly worked with the 0-2 year olds and helped out with the 3-4 year olds while the infants were napping. There are two main rooms that are very small, it is the downstairs of the teachers house and each room fitting about 20 to 30 children. We work 8am to 1pm work days this week since it is still holidays for them. The local people here are absolutely gorgeous in every way possible. I just don’t know how to explain it. I haven’t taken photos of the kids yet because I am still trying to figure out what my thoughts are about taking their photos and I want to respect the children and spend quality time with them. After long sweaty days of working with the children we would go walk over to the beach and it reminds me of the beaches back home. After the first day of projects, two other American girls and I went and hiked Table Mountain View. We hiked 4 hours up, not knowing when we were going to reach the top. Thankfully we found a big group hiking the same path and they kind of helped us out. We ended up taking the cable car back down and got home late that night. I also went to go visit the Grandaddy Hotel which has Airstreams on the rooftop where you can stay or you can grab something to eat there at the restaurant/cafe. I was in Clara heaven because one of my life long dreams is to roadtrip in an Airstream.

This is the beach closest to us and you can see the Table Mountain View.
This isn’t even the highest point of the Mountain but the view is was absolutely stunning.
Look how gorgeous that singular Airstream is with the beautiful mountains in the back. aaaaaah

And on Saturday, some girls and I went to Honest Chocolate and the Gin Bar. My oh my we were in Chocolate heaven and the place was so so adorable. It felt like we were in Spain or Italy. Then lots of new volunteers arrived and I got so excited to meet many new faces and people from all around the World! Every Wednesday and Saturday we have a big group dinner with all the volunteers from all projects. It’s so great because it feels like a big happy family. I love it so far and I already want to travel to so many more places by only being here a week.

Alrighty, so that was a lot of just blurb but I am trying to just get something out here on this blog for now and I hope you enjoy reading this. I will try to do a page based on solely volunteering and the whole culture shock and poverty levels in the townships etc… If your reading this thank you so much for reading this far down. Sending you all love from South Africa!!!
